It’s a bit of a cliche but what a difference a few days makes. This time last week I was excited to be voting in an election and referendum. This week I am reading with increasing sadness about the ongoing fallout of Britain’s decision to leave the European Union. We are also awaiting the results of the Australian federal election on Saturday while hearing about more terrorist attacks in Turkey. Everything seems a little unsettled.
Amid all this uncertainty, my last post for the month was a joy to write. In fact I didn’t write most of it. Instead I collaborated with some wonderful expat and travel bloggers from the four corners of the globe on their favourite foods from home. It is comforting to know that no matter where you are from or where you live, sharing a meal can bring people together and rekindle wonderful memories. Read Tastes like home.
London – the world’s highest slide (178m) has opened at London’s Olympic Park – would you try it?
Europe – an Italian senator wants to set up a registry of expert pizza makers to protect Italy’s food traditions
Watch – loving the new season of Orange is the New Black
Sigh – beautiful candid images of Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn backstage at the 1956 Academy Awards
Talk – One man’s quest to ensure the English speaking world pronounces Italian words correctly
Read – I read Tim Park’s Europa in the mid 90s. It seems so relevant now in a Europe coming to terms with Brexit
Eat – another favourite meal from home is lamb roast. This recipe from Donna Hay has a Greek twist
